On this first Sunday in Advent we learn of God’s faithfulness in calling us to faith in Christ, confirming us as His gifted servants, and in His promise to commend us as His own for all eternity at the second coming of Christ.  Being open to God’s long term solutions to our problems and fears is our response to a loving God who has a long term plan for our lives. The text for this message is I Corinthians 1:3-9.

God Is Faithful

For those holding a form of religion while denying its power, Christianity is a farce - a put-on.  But authentic Christianity is both a put-off and a put-on - putting off the old self and putting on the new.  Authentic faith involves putting on honesty, encouragement, and love that makes an impact on a watching world. Scripture from Ephesians 4:25-5:2.

Is Christianity a Put-on?

The gospel is “the power of God unto salvation” so it’s imperative that we share this message of good news with as many as possible.  Romans 10:12-17, in a series of rhetorical questions, sets forth what is necessary for a person to be saved, i.e., the how of salvation.  This message is central in understanding the mission of Community of Joy. Scripture from Romans 10:12-17.
