Don’t Forget the Cross!

A significant portion of Christendom will move from the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to the celebration of His resurrection on Easter Sunday, without the benefit of following Jesus to the cross.  We must not forget the cross!  Philippians 2:8 tells us that Jesus, in coming to earth as God’s Son, nevertheless, having also emptied Himself and taken on full humanity, “humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.” The cross was Jesus’ mission.  It’s why He came.  “He came not to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). When we look at the cross, and in our mind’s eye behold the One who died there, we must never forget that in addition to those who were actually responsible for this horrific crime against an innocent victim, WE WERE THERE TOO! My sins and yours helped nail Jesus to the cross and we shouldn’t take that lightly.  Jesus loved us with a cross.  Without this understanding, the message of the gospel, validated by Jesus’ resurrection, will never be the amazing, life-changing, earth-shaking good news it was intended to be.  For more, listen to the audio file of this Palm/Passion Sunday message.
